Bees are important pollinators in Florida citrus groves. Many growers work with professional beekeepers to set hives near groves to improve flower pollination and fruit set. Florida citrus honey is also enjoyed by many for culinary reasons.

Different citrus varieties respond to pollination differently. For example, it’s thought that grapefruit doesn’t require pollination, while varieties like ‘Sunburst’ depend on that activity. The University of Florida has an excellent paper the topic, “Pollination of Citrus by Honey Bees“.
